余滴（１）：地震と宗教 ― 2010/01/26 22:54
インターネット上のハイチ大地震に関する膨大な数のニュースのなかに「ハイチのブードゥー司祭、死者への敬意を要求する」というロイター電の記事があった（Taranaki Daily News 2010/01/28）。Max Beauvoirというヴォドゥの聖職者が、5万人に上る地震の被害者の遺体をまとめて集合墓地に埋葬したことについてプレヴァル大統領に抗議をしたというニュースである。
Max Beauvoir氏は、今回の地震の震源地に近いMarianiに1974年、ヴォドゥの集会所Péristyle de Marianiを創設、1996年にはハイチ人移民が増加しているアメリカ合衆国支部としてThe Temple of Yehwe を設立、2005年には「ハイチ・ヴォドゥ教徒全国連合」（Fédération Nationale des Vodouisants Haïtiens）を組織している、野心的なヴォドゥのリーダーの一人である。1986年にデュバリエ独裁体制が崩壊した直後、ヴォドゥを支持したデュバリエに対する反動としてヴォドゥ教徒に対する暴力や集会場の焼き打ちなどヴォドゥに対する激しい弾圧が行われた。現在ではヴォドゥは憲法において一つの宗教として認められ、いくつかのヴォドゥ再建運動が現れた。その代表がZantrayであるが、Max Beauvoirが主催する組織もそうしたもののうちの一つにすぎない。ヴォドゥは、アメリカ大陸の他地域のアフロアメリカン宗教と同様に、一つの宗教集団ではなく、個々の宗教的指導者が主催する小規模なグループの総称である。それゆえMax Beauvoirの政治的立場については筆者はまだ確定的な評価をもっていないが、地震の犠牲者たちの鎮魂という意味で、その意見には傾聴すべきところがあると思う。
